silent auction

The show has raised almost $50,000 through the silent auction over the past five years with the funds going to various alpaca-related charities and causes.

In 2007, The Great Midwest Alpaca Festival Scholarship Fund was established at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine to provide opportunities for students to get hands-on camelid experience.

Since 2003, GMAF has donated over $25,000 to the Alpaca Research Foundation.

Money raised in prior silent auctions has also been donated to the Alpaca Project, the International Camelid Institute, and the Quechua Benefit (a non-profit charitable organization that provides dental assistance, clothing, school supplies and food to the Quechua people of Peru). The Quechua Indians, who domesticated the Vicuña more than 5,000 years ago, are the ancestral keepers of the alpaca.

Vendors generously donate items to the silent auction as do many of the exhibitors competing in the show. In the past, breedings to some of the country’s top herd sires have been donated.

Silent auction items are available for viewing during the entire show. Tables will be located on the main floor of the coliseum along the wall behind the show rings. Be sure to visit the silent auction area during the show and bid.

If you have an item you would like to donate, please contact Mindy Huitt.
